I Shall No More Seek Beauty

Palmetto Trees Against The Milky Way

I shall no more seek beauty,

for I am not beautiful.

I might see my size and know my insignificance.

Though I stand in awestruck silence

I am one who only stands aside and watches.

I have sat on the edge of the earth

and watched the sun rise–and set–

and rise again.

I have actively sought beauty

from the thorn to the great sky

and have seen it in both places.

I shall no more seek beauty

for now I know there is no need.

The eagle soars and dives. The heron stands and waits.

Yet they are both fed.

And I shall no more seek beauty.
